Olga Guanabara

How it all began

For starters Olga is a dog. Or perhaps I should say, was.
A beautiful chubby chocolate lab that stuck by my side through thick and thin for 14 years. And Guanabara is a bay in Rio de Janeiro.  The name Guanabara comes from the Tupi-Guarani language, goanã-pará, from gwa "bay", plus nã "similar to" and ba'ra "sea."  Pronunciation: {gwä”nu-bär’u}.

I used to take Olga for a few swims every so often when visiting that beautiful city. Fast forward a few years... The two of us had moved to a loft in Dumbo, Brooklyn– and I wanted a huge dining table so we could throw dinner parties from time to time. I went out to buy one but realized the ones I liked I could not afford– and the ones I could afford were mass-made in China or Vietnam.

Even more problematic, they were the kind of tables that everyone had or was buying from so many of these stores that send out massive catalogues. I didn't really want my place to look like everyone else's.  So I went out and bought a bunch of steel and wood - and inside my new apartment we made a huge mess - cutting and welding our first piece together.

I had no idea what I was doing or getting myself into, but it came out great -and soon enough a few friends began asking me to make them some pieces. Next thing I knew... I was opening a
store and building all sorts of furniture.  Now finally after a few long months of lots of life changes... we have relocated to upstate
New York and are glad to announce our new collection,
Curves of Grace.
